Join the SmokeLong community for Promptember, a mysterious intermonth happening between November and December of live write-in events designed to light a fire under your writing life. Participate in one, some, or all of our scribble-till-your-hands-hurt events from November 8 to December 14. Promptember is a combination of online write-in and open mic events where you’ll find community and inspiration. And of course if you end up getting something published you started during Promptember, it will be eligible to win The SmokeLong Workshop Prize. This competition is free to enter and can be found on our Submittable page.
It’s easy to register for Promptember in the SmokeLong Shop, and the live events themselves are free. That’s right: free.
There are paid options, though, if you are so inclined.
First, all donations will go to SAFTA fellowships/residencies for trans, black and/or indigenous writers. You can read more about the work SAFTA does in East Tennessee HERE. Update: donations through SmokeLong are closed, but please please please donate directly to SAFTA HERE.
Exceptions: The first event on November 8th, though it’s on an open-mic day, will be a write-in prompt-based event. On November 16th, there is no event because Christopher will be travelling. On December 12th, we’ll be hosting a reading and interview with Melissa Llanes Brownlee, celebrating her prize-winning collection Bitter Over Sweet! I’m sure Melissa will have a couple of prompts for us! And there are a couple more changes to the schedule, due to travel conflicts, that you’ll see once you’ve signed up.
We can’t wait to write with you!
