Jefferson Lara

Jefferson Lara is a local artist in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. He has studied in the field of fine arts and graphic design at the Art Institute of Washington. He is also a self-taught photographer and has been doing freelance photography for the past two and a half years. Lara has a gift for seeing things in a very different way. He has enjoyed all forms of art from a very young age starting with playing the violin and continuing with poetry, sculpture, painting, designing, and photography. He always strives for perfection and is always eager for a new project.

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest

Deadline November 15th!

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest (The Mikey) is now an annual competition celebrating and compensating the best micro fiction and nonfiction online.

The grand prize winner of The Mikey is automatically nominated for Best Small Fictions and any other prize we deem appropriate. In addition, we will pay the grand prize winner $1000. Second place: $500. Third place $300. Finalists: $100. All finalists and placers will be published in the December ’25 issue of SmokeLong.

Previously published as well as previously unpublished work will be considered.
