Grant Faulkner

Grant Faulkner is the executive director of National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) and the co-founder of 100 Word Story. He recently published a  book of essays on creativity, Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo. He’s also published Fissures, a collection of 100-word stories, and co-edited Nothing Short of 100: Selected Tales from 100 Word Story. His stories have appeared in many literary magazines, including Tin HouseThe Southwest Review, and The Gettysburg Review. His essays on creativity have been published in The New York TimesPoets & WritersWriter’s Digest, and The Writer. He co-hosts the weekly podcast Write-minded.

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest

Deadline November 15th!

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest (The Mikey) is now an annual competition celebrating and compensating the best micro fiction and nonfiction online.

The grand prize winner of The Mikey is automatically nominated for Best Small Fictions and any other prize we deem appropriate. In addition, we will pay the grand prize winner $1000. Second place: $500. Third place $300. Finalists: $100. All finalists and placers will be published in the December ’25 issue of SmokeLong.

Previously published as well as previously unpublished work will be considered.
