Last Day to Enter The Springy!

April 1, 2022

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who has already entered The SmokeLong Grand Spring Flash Contest! We are busy reading your entries, and wow wow wow you people are talented! As I’m sure you all know, today is the final day to send in your entry, but we thought we’d send you one last nudge.

A quick reminder of the general guidelines:

— Anyone over the age of 18 may enter.
— Entries must be fewer than 1000 words in English, including but not excluding the title. If you are writing in another language, your entry must be under 1000 words when translated into English. We recommend Google Translate.
— Previously published entries will be considered as long as the readership was below 30 people (print).
— There is no theme for this competition, but please keep it jaunty. #TheSpringy!
— Please use a legible, dark font. We suggest Garamond 14pt Bold. We find that a nice dark font is indicative of confident writing.
— Please remove your name from the story itself. Our judges read blind.
— While there is no theme for this competition, your story must begin with “On the last quite full day of ___________ …” Again, this was in our original guidelines (see link below), but you may fill in the gap with anything but spring. No violence, no on-the-nose metaphors, no poetry.
— We will be reading entries until midnight tonight in Los Angeles, TX.
— Entry is free
— Grand prize will be 150% all entry fees collected.
— To submit your story, jump on it HERE!

A SmokeLong Summer 26!

A SmokeLong Summer 26 is closer than you think. This year we’re starting early and staying late. The summer just got longer.

As always, at the heart of A SmokeLong Summer is our peer-review workshop in small groups of around 15 writers, drafting to 3 writing tasks each week. Our peer-review workshop is all in writing, so you can participate from anywhere, anytime. This summer our writing tasks will be generative and thematically leaning towards community. Our theme this year: “The Global Flash Village”. Writing doesn’t have a be a game of Solitaire; it can be a team sport.

Our participants often say their writing has dramatically increased in community. A SmokeLong Summer 26 will take you around the world, introducing you to writers from every corner of our beautiful planet.
