Eliezra Schaffzin

Eliezra Schaffzin’s work has recently appeared in Online Conjunctions, Salt Hill, and SmokeLong’s 15th-anniversary contest issue, among other publications. She is currently at work on several longer literary and musical projects, including a novel about magic, seduction, and the first American department stores, for which she received a research grant from the New-York Historical Society. She is the 2017 recipient of the Calvino Prize, awarded to a work of fiction in the fabulist experimentalist style of Italo Calvino. Schaffzin holds an MFA from the University of Florida and has taught writing at Harvard University and the Rhode Island School of Design.

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest

Deadline November 15th!

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest (The Mikey) is now an annual competition celebrating and compensating the best micro fiction and nonfiction online.

The grand prize winner of The Mikey is automatically nominated for Best Small Fictions and any other prize we deem appropriate. In addition, we will pay the grand prize winner $1000. Second place: $500. Third place $300. Finalists: $100. All finalists and placers will be published in the December ’25 issue of SmokeLong.

Previously published as well as previously unpublished work will be considered.
