About the Author

Dana Heifetz is a philosopher and an art therapist. She has published short stories and poems in various literary journals. Her collection of stories, Dolphins in Kiryat Gat (Safra and Hakibbutz Hameuchad, 2015) won the Israeli Writers Union Prize and the Culture Minister’s Award for the first book.

דנה חפץ היא פילוסופית ומטפלת בהבעה ויצירה. פרסמה סיפורים קצרים ושירים במגוון כתבי עת ספרותיים. קובץ סיפוריה הקצרים “דולפינים בקרית גת” (ספרא והקיבוץ המאוחד, 2015) זכה בפרס איגוד הסופרים הישראלי ובפרס שרת התרבות לספר ביכורים.

About the Interviewer

Ilana Masad is an Israeli-American fiction writer and book critic. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, Tin House’s Open Bar, Printer’s Row, Joyland Magazine, Vice, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian, and more. She is the founder and host of The Other Stories, a podcast featuring fiction writers, and can be found tweeting too much @ilanaslightly.

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest (The Mikey) is now an annual competition celebrating and compensating the best micro fiction and nonfiction online.

The grand prize winner of The Mikey is automatically nominated for Best Small Fictions and any other prize we deem appropriate. In addition, we will pay the grand prize winner $1000. Second place: $500. Third place $300. Finalists: $100. All finalists and placers will be published in the December ’25 issue of SmokeLong.

Previously published as well as previously unpublished work will be considered.
