Are you thinking about signing up for A SmokeLong Summer 25 but have questions? We have answers.
I’m participating in SmokeLong Fitness already. Do I have to pay extra for this?
No! A SmokeLong Summer 25 is included in your annual membership fee. If you are paying monthly, A SmokeLong Summer 25 is included as long as you’re paying your monthly subscription fee. This one is on us!
I’m participating in SmokeLong Fitness. Do I have to participate in A SmokeLong Summer 25?
Well, yes and no. Everyone will get 3 writing tasks a week, but you can choose to do only one of them, essentially working at the pace of SmokeLong Fitness. When it comes to inspiration, more is more. Right?
I participated in The March Micro Marathon as an external participant (not from SmokeLong Fitness). I’ve heard that we get a discount. Is this true? Where can I find the discount code?
The discount code is in the workshop in the post about A SmokeLong Summer 25 in The March Micro Marathon Zone, but please let us know if you can’t find it.
If I sign up for SmokeLong Fitness in May before A SmokeLong Summer 25 begins on May 24th, is A SmokeLong Summer 25 included? I participated in The March Micro Marathon. Can I use my discount code for SmokeLong Fitness?
Yes and Yes.
Will there be competitions this year?
Yes! Go HERE to find out more.
What will the peer-review workshop be like?
This year we will offer you the opportunity of taking part in one small group or two small groups (one in which everyone is working on stand-alone flash narratives and one in which everyone is working on one of the following: narrative poetry, a novel incorporating flash components, or the novella-in-flash/memoir-in-flash). You can choose to participate in one small group or two.
We remix the stand-alone flash small groups once each fortnight. The groups specific to narrative poetry, the novel, and the novella-in-flash/memoir-in-flash will remain together throughout A SmokeLong Summer 25.
The number of participants in each group will depend on the number of total participants in A SmokeLong Summer 25.
I think I might be working on a novella-in-flash, but I’m not really sure. Is this workshop right for me?
Well, of course it is. Two of our live events will be focused on the novella-in-flash and the memoir-in-flash, and our writing tasks will support you as you develop your story. You’ll have the opportunity of working on stand-alone flash narratives in one group while you focus on the threads between them in the novella-in-flash small group.
I’m a poet but am curious about flash. Should I join?
This summer we want to celebrate the intersections between poetry and flash. As long as you’re open to leaning into narrative forms, you should feel inspired this summer.
I’m a flash writer who occasionally moonlights as a poet. Should I join?
Yep. We think you’ll be inspired by the poet curious about flash. We’d love for you two to be in a small group together.
I’m not a poet, and I’m not working on a longer work like a novel or a novella-in-flash. Is this workshop for me?
Yes, sure. While we are homing in on the blurred spaces between flash and poetry, flash and the novel, and the novella-in-flash/memoir-in-flash, we’ll always have writing tasks focused on the stand-alone flash narrative. That’s what we do.
Wow, you have a lot of live events planned, but I probably won’t be able to attend them all. Will they be recorded?
Yes. All of our events are recorded and sent to the participants one or two days after the event.
I’m traveling some this summer. Is this a problem?
For some participants this might be a problem, but it’s really a question of what kind of traveler you are and how long you’ll be traveling. A SmokeLong Summer 25 is 100% online, so you can participate from anywhere. I’ve hosted our online events from hotel rooms around the world. I even did one open mic from my car.
How much time per week should I devote to A SmokeLong Summer 25?
This is up to you of course, but I think around 5 hours drafting, an hour or 2 for giving feedback, and an hour participating in large-group discussions. In A SmokeLong Summer there are always 3 writing tasks per week. You might choose to do only one of these tasks or all three. In this way, you can manage your own pace and workload in the workshop.
I can’t afford this, but I am a passionate workshopper (or would be if I could afford them). Are you taking applications for free places?
Yes, we are. If you are a person seeking community but who lacks the funds, please send us an email (editor@smokelong.com). We do have a couple of free places in SmokeLong Fitness donated anonymously by a generous SmokeLong Fitness participant. Of course we need to make sure these places go to a person for whom this opportunity will be game-changing.
Where can I book A SmokeLong Summer 25?
