Epic Flash: Making Big Stories in Small Spaces

There’s a common misconception that only small subjects are fit for flash fiction, as if the small space afforded for text cannot accommodate big themes. But it’s not true! In this workshop, we’ll learn why the compression of flash fiction is actually an ideal space for the biggest stories, and techniques for how to use a small space to create epic flash.

Date: February 18
Time: Noon EST (90 minutes)

Amber Sparks is the author of The Unfinished World and Other Stories, and I Do Not Forgive You: Stories and Other Revenges, both from Liveright. Her fiction and essays have appeared in Tin House, Granta, The Cut, The Paris Review, and others.

A SmokeLong Summer 2023!

Booking starts January 2

From June 5 to August 27 2023, SmokeLong is going to host the superworkshop, A SmokeLong Summer for the second year. We want to spend the summer with you, the flash community. Our asynchronous workshops take place on a devoted website where you can create a profile, interact with the flash community, and take part in group discussions on craft, but A SmokeLong Summer is much more.
